Taylor’s Top 5 Book Picks (16 Months)

31 Jul

Taylor at 5 months, enjoying the classics…

One of my favorite things about Taylor growing up, is her increasing fascination for books along with her ability to actually snuggle up long enough with me in our comfy reading chair to read them together (over and over, and over again). She has always been a fan of books (chewing on them, mostly), but more recently she has gotten obsessed with reading them, staring at the pictures, and asking questions about each and every object on the page. I’ve put together a list of the top 5 books that I can officially read from memory because Taylor love them so much!

1) Goodnight Gorilla

Hands down the number one book in our house; anytime she even sees a glimpse of the cover, she heads straight for it. Each page has so many things to see and hidden objects to point out. It also allows you to make up a lot of the dialogue because each page is mostly gorgeous illustrations. This book is also the first book that Taylor helped me to read!

2) Blue Hat Green Hat

Sandra Boynton is one of the best children’s book authors. Her books are full of adorable humor for both you and your kiddo, it’s bound to be a great read. This one is particularly funny to me (I even laughed out loud the first time I read it), so it’s on both of our lists!

3) Brown Bear Brown Bear

Another great author that almost all of us have read or heard of is Eric Carle. This one is a particular favorite of ours because of the distinct animal illustrations: it’s fun to point out their sounds and colors!

4) Pat the Bunny

The absolute classic children’s book! I remember this book so well from my childhood, that I could recite it by memory the first time Taylor and I read it together. Not only does it use almost all of your child’s senses, but it is simple and sweet.

5) Mama Mama

This was a new one for me, but a quick favorite for Taylor. A sweet rhyming story with beautiful illustrations of wild animal mamas and their babies.

What are your children’s favorite books?

    Great picks! Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? Is a favorite for our kiddos. In fact last year it was really cool when our 4 & 5 year old read it to their 1 year old little sis, priceless!

    I love this post! I love hearing about new books. Luka loves any touch and feel book right now. His favorites are The Gruffalo (touch and feel) and Barnyard Dance by Sandra Boynton…mostly because when we read Barnyard Dance to him, Val make a banjo noise…lol.
    Another favourite of his and ours is Otis by Loren Long. The illustrations are stunning.

      Haha at the banjo! The sillest noises make the best stories. I’m so checking out your list online!! I need to introduce some new ones to Taylor, so I can give poor Goodnight Gorilla a break, haha. {S}
